Sec 4 Combined Science (Chemistry) Tuition: G2

Our tutors help Sec 4 G2 students understand Chemistry concepts and write complete short answers. Lessons use recurring mistakes from schoolwork to plan practice for the Combined Science Chemistry papers.

Live online classes · Maximum 4 students · 1.5 hours weekly

What we practise

  • Use core concepts to justify multiple-choice answers
  • Give structured responses that match the command and context
  • Check formulae, equations and required calculation steps
  • Interpret experimental descriptions and data in written questions

Syllabus & assessment

Syllabus sources

SEAB K223 and K225 describe the 2027 G2 Science assessment. Chemistry has multiple-choice and structured papers, with experimental skills assessed in written tasks. Source checked 10 October 2026.

Answer the command before adding more facts

“Describe” and “explain” ask for different work. A description reports what happens or what is observed. An explanation gives the relevant reason. In a comparison, both sides need attention. Recognising the command helps a student use a familiar fact in a way that actually answers the question.

Our tutors practise this by asking different questions about the same situation. The student learns to change the response because the task changes. After writing, check whether every sentence contributes. A short, accurate answer with the required connection is more useful than a longer list of facts from the chapter.

The task

A gas spreads from one part of a container throughout the available space. Describe the change, then explain it using particles.

Worked response

Description: the gas becomes distributed throughout the container. Explanation: gas particles move randomly and spread through the available space.

The description states the observed change; the explanation uses the particle model. Keep these roles clear when reading a structured question.

Prepare the G2 Chemistry paper pair deliberately

The 2027 G2 assessment treats Chemistry multiple-choice and structured work as a paired session. Practise both task types and review where time is lost. A student may answer familiar MCQs quickly but hesitate when asked to explain the same idea in words. That points to a teaching need in expression or reasoning.

Use a compact revision record organised by misconception: confusing dissolved and insoluble substances, changing formulae when balancing, or leaving out the reason for a method. Revisit each in a new question. The other science still contributes to the Combined Science result, so Chemistry practice should fit a balanced school revision plan.

Common difficulties

The student recognises the topic but misreads the task

A question may ask for an observation, a reason or a comparison. We teach students to identify that demand before choosing the fact they want to use.

How our tutors help

Work on a recurring mistake

We choose a repeated mistake from recent work, explain it and give the student another question to try.

Practise concise explanations aloud

A short spoken explanation shows whether the reasoning is complete. We then help the student write it clearly with the necessary chemical terms.

Return to the skill in a fresh task

Practice and spaced review revisit the lesson. The tutor checks new answers before adding timed paper practice.

Getting started

Arrange a trial class

Bring recent schoolwork so the tutor can plan the first lesson.

Bring a recent piece of work

We read the questions, your child’s answers and teacher feedback to choose what to work on.

Confirm the right class

We message you to confirm the school programme, 2027 year level and lesson time.

Try a lesson

A trial class lets your child meet the teacher, take part and see how the lessons work.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

How many students are in each class?

Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

How much does a dedicated trial session cost?

A dedicated trial session at a different timeslot is offered at a subsidised rate of $30. We’ll help you explore the available options.

What is the 2027 G2 Chemistry assessment arrangement?

K223/K225 list Chemistry Paper 3, Multiple Choice, and Paper 4, Structured, in a combined 1 hour 15 minute session. The syllabus guide provides marks and whole-qualification weightings. G3 Combined Science uses a different arrangement.

Should a G2 student prepare for a separate practical paper?

In the 2027 G2 scheme, experimental skills are assessed through written questions. We practise explaining methods, observations and data for those tasks.

What if my child keeps making the same basic mistakes?

Bring a few recent attempts. The tutor looks for a common mistake, explains it with an example and checks another question. Students revisit it through spaced practice between classes.

Is registration open for 2027?

Class registration for the 2027 school year is open. Request a trial class using the form. We will message you to confirm your child’s 2027 level and class details.

Is practice included?

Yes. Students practise on DeepThink between their weekly live online lessons.
