Sec 4 Combined Science (Chemistry) Tuition: G3

Our tutors help Sec 4 G3 Combined Science students revise Chemistry explanations, calculations and practical questions. Lessons use recent work to find recurring mistakes, then check the correction in another task.

Live online classes · Maximum 4 students · 1.5 hours weekly

What we practise

  • Answer Chemistry multiple-choice questions with a reasoned choice
  • Write concise, complete structured explanations
  • Use equations, ratios and units consistently in calculations
  • Interpret practical observations and data within the G3 course

Syllabus & assessment

Make multiple-choice review reveal a misconception

For each uncertain answer, explain the selected option before checking the key. Then choose the strongest distractor and explain why it is wrong. This reveals whether the student understands the concept or simply recognises familiar wording. Record the underlying misconception, not the letter of the correct option.

Try a structured question on the same topic after reviewing the MCQ. If the student chose the right option but cannot explain it, work through that explanation before moving on.

The task

A student says that doubling the mass of a reactant always doubles the gas produced. What condition must be checked?

Worked response

Check whether the other reactant is available in sufficient amount. If it becomes limiting, doubling the first reactant does not necessarily double the product.

The word “always” hides a condition. Use the actual reaction quantities before predicting a final amount.

Study guide · 02

Write the link that earns the explanation

In structured work, read the command and identify the change being explained. For a rate question, link the changed condition to particles and successful collisions where relevant. For a separation question, connect the method to a property. A keyword becomes useful only when it forms part of the answer to this question.

G3 Combined Science includes practical assessment across the two sciences. Chemistry revision should include observations, conclusions and interpretation of measurements alongside theory. Our online lessons support that reasoning; school practical work supplies the supervised apparatus experience. Use feedback from both when choosing the next revision target.

Common difficulties

An MCQ answer is correct for the wrong reason

A guessed answer can hide a misconception. We ask students to justify the selected option and explain why a tempting alternative fails.

The explanation names a concept without applying it

“More collisions” is incomplete if the question needs a link from a changed condition to successful collisions. We build the full explanation required by that context.

How our tutors help

Review Chemistry as part of the combination

We confirm the G3 course and school assessment calendar, then choose Chemistry priorities that fit the student’s wider science preparation.

Link short answers to complete reasoning

The tutor asks for the principle, its application and the conclusion before helping the student write concisely. Brevity should preserve the explanation.

Use practice to verify a correction

Practice and spaced review revisit the lesson. A timed section checks whether the student can choose and use the idea without help.

Getting started

Arrange a trial class

Bring recent schoolwork so the tutor can plan the first lesson.

Bring a recent piece of work

We read the questions, your child’s answers and teacher feedback to choose what to work on.

Confirm the right class

We message you to confirm the school programme, 2027 year level and lesson time.

Try a lesson

A trial class lets your child meet the teacher, take part and see how the lessons work.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

How many students are in each class?

Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

How much does a dedicated trial session cost?

A dedicated trial session at a different timeslot is offered at a subsidised rate of $30. We’ll help you explore the available options.

Are the Chemistry percentages the whole Combined Science grade?

The Chemistry theory paper contributes to the result alongside the other science theory paper, shared MCQ paper and practical paper. The assessment table lists the weighting of each.

Can a student use Pure Chemistry papers for revision?

Some questions may overlap, but the required depth and paper structure differ. Check the learning outcome before using a question. Our tutors choose work appropriate to G3 Combined Chemistry so practice time addresses the student’s course requirements.

How do you combine focused practice and exam papers?

Work on the mistake in a short question, then try another example without help. A timed section checks pace. If the mistake returns, review that step again with the tutor.

Is registration open for 2027?

Class registration for the 2027 school year is open. Request a trial class using the form. We will message you to confirm your child’s 2027 level and class details.

Is practice included?

Yes. Students practise on DeepThink between their weekly live online lessons.
