Secondary 4 Chemistry Tuition

Our tutors help Sec 4 students revise recurring mistakes, write clearer explanations and work through calculations under time. Lessons follow the student’s Pure, Combined or IP Chemistry course, with practice between classes.

What we practise

  • Identify the underlying cause of errors across recent questions
  • Connect concepts in unfamiliar or multi-step problems
  • Write clear, complete explanations and calculation working
  • Rehearse theory and experimental skills under assessment conditions

Sec 4 Chemistry assessment preparation

In the 2027 assessment, Pure Chemistry has Multiple Choice, Structured and Free Response, and Practical papers. G3 Combined Science assesses Chemistry alongside another science and includes a practical paper. G2 Combined Science has multiple-choice and structured papers for each science, with practical skills assessed through written questions.

Use the assessment table for your course when choosing timed papers. Check the learning outcomes for the depth each topic needs. Combined Science students should also plan revision time for the other science.

Make a marked paper choose the next practice

After a paper, choose a recurring error and identify its first cause. If the calculation used the wrong ratio, check the balanced equation and the meaning of the quantities. If an explanation was incomplete, identify the link between the concept and the observed result. A useful revision note states that missing decision clearly.

After practising the correction, try another question and then a timed section. At home, ask your child to show the earlier mistake, explain the correction and work through a new example without help.

The task

A student writes, “The gas was hydrogen because there were bubbles.” What is missing?

Worked response

Bubbles establish gas formation but do not identify the gas. The answer needs the appropriate test and observation, such as a lighted splint producing a pop for hydrogen, where that evidence is given.

The revision target is the difference between observation and identification. The student should not invent a test result absent from the question.

Common difficulties

Revision follows chapters but errors cross several topics

A misconception about particles, equations or quantities can appear throughout a paper. We identify the shared cause so that one lesson can strengthen more than one question type.

How our tutors help

Find the cause of recurring mistakes

We check whether the student forgot a fact, misread the question, set up the calculation incorrectly or left out an explanation.

Test the correction in an unfamiliar question

A fresh context shows whether the concept is understood. The tutor helps the student use supplied information while keeping the chemical principle clear.

Practise timed sections

Students work on a difficulty in short exercises, revisit it through spaced review and try it in a timed section.

Getting started

Arrange a trial class

Bring recent schoolwork so the tutor can plan the first lesson.

Bring a recent piece of work

We read the questions, your child’s answers and teacher feedback to choose what to work on.

Confirm the right class

We message you to confirm the school programme, 2027 year level and lesson time.

Try a lesson

A trial class lets your child meet the teacher, take part and see how the lessons work.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

How many students are in each class?

Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

How much does a dedicated trial session cost?

A dedicated trial session at a different timeslot is offered at a subsidised rate of $30. We’ll help you explore the available options.

Which Chemistry courses do you teach in Sec 4?

We teach Pure Chemistry and Combined Science (Chemistry) at G3 and G2. The course pages describe the revision priorities and assessment preparation for each course.

Should every lesson use a full examination paper?

Full papers show how the student manages time and combines topics. Short exercises give them time to work on a particular mistake. We use both and check the correction in another question.

What should we bring for a revision-focused trial?

Bring a recent marked paper and the student’s working, including unfinished questions. Practical feedback is also useful where relevant. Those materials help the tutor identify whether the priority is knowledge, interpretation, calculation, explanation or task management.

Is registration open for 2027?

Class registration for the 2027 school year is open. Request a trial class using the form. We will message you to confirm your child’s 2027 level and class details.

Is practice included?

Yes. Students practise on DeepThink between their weekly live online lessons.
