Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by level — if no existing session matches your child’s pace, we open a new one.

Write the central interpretation in a sentence before drafting. Each paragraph should contribute a distinct part of the answer: establish a pattern, examine a complication or explain a shift. The conclusion can then state what the analysis has shown, rather than restating a list of devices.
Ask what each paragraph adds. If it gives another example of a point already explained, combine the evidence or develop a different part of the answer. This helps keep timed responses focused.
The task
A response argues that a narrator gradually loses confidence. Its first two paragraphs both discuss confident language at the opening. What could the second paragraph do instead?
Worked response
Examine the first moment where the narrator’s language becomes hesitant, and explain how that shift changes the reader’s view.
The second paragraph now shows a change in the narrator. It adds to the argument instead of repeating the opening point.

Gather the task format, criteria, text list where relevant and recent feedback. Separate difficulties with knowledge of a text from difficulties with analysis or organisation. The first may need rereading and selective notes; the second needs fresh practice in explaining and structuring ideas. Treating both as memorisation leaves part of the work untouched.
When timing is part of the school assessment, rehearse a plan and response under those conditions. Review whether the student had enough time to develop the important point and check clarity. We keep preparation tied to the current secondary programme while building the independent reading and argument that later study will demand.
Several paragraphs can make the same point with different quotations. We help the student give each paragraph a distinct role in developing the interpretation.
A recent marked response shows where the student’s work falls short of the school criteria. We turn that evidence into a small set of revision priorities.
The tutor asks follow-up questions about a point, its evidence and other possible interpretations. The student uses that discussion to revise the paragraph.
Students practise with another extract or question after the lesson. Practice and spaced review revisit the skills taught in class.

Frequently asked questions
Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

IP English and Language Arts assessments are set by the school. Bring the task details and current materials so lessons prepare your child for that assessment.
Bring a marked response. The tutor checks for repeated points, weak evidence, missing explanations or an order that makes the argument hard to follow. We work on that part, then try another response without help.
Reading independently, evaluating evidence and developing an argument help students with more demanding assignments. We practise these skills through current schoolwork and ask students to use feedback in another task.
