Secondary 4 English Tuition

Our tutors use recent papers and teacher feedback to plan Sec 4 English revision. Students work on the parts they find difficult, then practise longer and timed responses. Lessons follow their G1, G2 or G3 course, or the school’s IP or IB pathway assignments.

What we practise

  • Identify recurring causes of weak answers across recent work
  • Apply reading and writing skills under school assessment conditions
  • Turn feedback into a specific change in the next response
  • Balance written, spoken and listening priorities where relevant

Syllabus & assessment

Syllabus sources

The 2027 G1, G2 and G3 assessments use K100, K200 and K300 respectively. The exam-format guide lists their requirements. IP lessons follow school materials. Source checked 10 October 2026.

English assessment preparation in Sec 4

G1, G2 and G3 English revision covers the writing, comprehension and oral tasks assessed in each course. The 2027 SEC guide on this site details the paper structures, writing requirements and oral tasks.

For IP and IB pathway students, lessons use the school’s assessment brief, criteria and current materials. Our tutors help students develop their responses, apply feedback and practise under the school’s assessment conditions.

Choose the next useful improvement

Look across several recent responses for a pattern. Does the student misread the command, select weak evidence, leave reasons unexplained or run out of time? The pattern matters more than a single disappointing mark. Choose an action that can be taught and checked in a fresh task.

If an explanation is incomplete, work through the reasoning first. If the answer is sound but takes too long, practise it under time. At home, ask your child what they changed in the latest attempt and why.

The task

A student repeatedly quotes relevant lines in comprehension but receives feedback that answers need explanation. What should the next practice target?

Worked response

Explain how each selected detail answers the exact question, first aloud and then in a concise written response.

The student has already found useful evidence. The next step is to explain why it answers the question.

Common difficulties

Revision becomes a count of completed papers

Before setting another paper, we review the mistakes and help the student practise the parts they need to change.

How our tutors help

Use recent work to set the priority

The tutor looks for recurring mistakes and chooses a skill to work on in the next lesson.

Try the skill in a timed task

After working on a difficulty, students try another question against the clock to see whether they can now handle it in an assessment.

Adjust the next lesson

Practice between classes shows the tutor what is improving and what still needs attention.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

How many students are in each class?

Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

How much does a dedicated trial session cost?

A dedicated trial session at a different timeslot is offered at a subsidised rate of $30. We’ll help you explore the available options.

Do you teach all Sec 4 English courses in the same class?

We discuss your child’s English course, recent work, school year and available lesson times when arranging the trial. These help us choose a suitable class.

What should a parent bring besides a recent mark?

Bring the task, the student’s complete response and the teacher’s comments. Those show what the assessment required and how the student approached it. A score alone cannot tell the tutor whether to work on interpretation, development, accuracy or timing.

How will we know whether revision is helping?

Compare similar answers your child has completed without help. Look for fuller explanations, paragraphs that stay on topic or more accurate summaries. We also use timed tasks to check how they manage during an assessment.
