Secondary 3 Chemistry Tuition

Our tutors help Sec 3 students understand particles, formulae and reactions, then use those ideas in calculations and explanations. Lessons follow the student’s Pure, Combined or IP course and current schoolwork. Choose the course below to see what we teach.

Sec 3 Chemistry courses

Pure Chemistry is a standalone G3 subject with its own theory and practical assessment. Combined Science includes Chemistry alongside another science; G3 and G2 use separate requirements and assessment schemes.

Share the school’s subject name, current topic and a recent answer when arranging a trial. The course pages describe what we work on; the school’s topic sequence guides the lessons.

Find the first step the student cannot explain

A student can make several visible errors from one underlying misunderstanding. If a chemical formula is treated as a set of numbers that can be adjusted freely, equation balancing and later calculations will both suffer. Ask what each symbol and number represents before deciding the child needs more calculation practice.

The tutor works through a small example to find what the student is unsure about. After explaining it, we return to the school question and try another example without help.

The task

A student changes H₂O to H₂O₂ to balance the atoms in an equation. What needs to be taught first?

Worked response

A formula identifies a substance’s composition. H₂O and H₂O₂ describe different substances; balancing changes coefficients while preserving the correct formulae.

H₂O and H₂O₂ are different substances. The student needs to understand the formula before balancing the equation.

Common difficulties

New chapters depend on an earlier idea that is shaky

A calculation mistake may start with the formula or balanced equation. We find that first error and work through it before moving on.

How our tutors help

Use current school work as the starting point

The tutor reviews the topic and the attempted working. This identifies whether the next lesson should focus on a concept, representation, calculation or explanation.

Connect observations, particles and symbols

Students describe what they see, explain what the particles are doing and write the equation for the change.

Keep the foundation active

Students practise earlier concepts between lessons and revisit them through spaced review. The tutor checks their answers before moving to the next topic.

Getting started

Arrange a trial class

Bring recent schoolwork so the tutor can plan the first lesson.

Bring a recent piece of work

We read the questions, your child’s answers and teacher feedback to choose what to work on.

Confirm the right class

We message you to confirm the school programme, 2027 year level and lesson time.

Try a lesson

A trial class lets your child meet the teacher, take part and see how the lessons work.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

How many students are in each class?

Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

How much does a dedicated trial session cost?

A dedicated trial session at a different timeslot is offered at a subsidised rate of $30. We’ll help you explore the available options.

Which Chemistry courses do you teach in Sec 3?

We teach Pure Chemistry and Combined Science (Chemistry) at G3 and G2. The linked pages describe the concepts, calculations and experimental reasoning we work on in each course.

What if my child was strong in lower-secondary Science but is struggling now?

Chemistry introduces more particle models, formulae, equations and calculations. A recent assignment helps us find which part is causing trouble, so we can practise it in class.

Do online lessons replace school practical sessions?

Online lessons can strengthen experimental planning, observations, data interpretation and evaluation. Supervised school laboratory work develops hands-on technique with apparatus. We use practical feedback where available to connect written reasoning with the student’s school experience.

Is registration open for 2027?

Class registration for the 2027 school year is open. Request a trial class using the form. We will message you to confirm your child’s 2027 level and class details.

Is practice included?

Yes. Students practise on DeepThink between their weekly live online lessons.
