Our tutors help Sec 1 G2 students explain comprehension answers and organise paragraphs. Students talk through an idea, put it into writing and revise it with the tutor’s feedback.

Inference does not mean inventing a story around the passage. Start with an observable detail and ask what it suggests in that situation. A student who rushes to a feeling word may miss whether the character is worried, embarrassed or simply concentrating. Read the surrounding sentences before choosing the interpretation.
We ask students to explain which detail supports their answer and why. Once that is clear, they write a shorter version that answers the question.
The task
“Leena checked the classroom number twice before pushing open the door.” What suggests she is uncertain?
Worked response
She checks the number again before entering, which suggests she wants to be sure she has the right room.
The response uses an action as evidence and explains it. The passage does not justify a stronger claim that she is terrified.

For a personal recount, decide what this part of the event needs the reader to understand. If the paragraph shows a mistake, choose the action and consequence that make the mistake clear. Avoid adding an unrelated description simply because it contains an impressive word. Each detail should help the paragraph do its job.
Ask your child why they put a sentence in a particular place. We help students move from a shared outline to planning on their own, while checking tense, punctuation and vocabulary.
“She is nervous” may be a sound interpretation. We teach students to explain which action or detail supports it, so the answer contains the reasoning the question asks for.
A paragraph can include good details yet leave the reader unsure what happened. We use a short plan to establish the sequence before discussing vocabulary and sentence variety.
The tutor helps the student identify whether the task asks for an event, a reason or an explanation. That choice determines how to use the passage.
We revise a paragraph together, then ask the student to try another topic without help.
Students practise reading and writing between lessons. The tutor uses those answers to plan the next class.

Frequently asked questions
Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

Secondary tasks ask for more explanation, longer writing and attention to the intended reader. We build on your child’s earlier skills and practise those parts using current schoolwork.
We use model paragraphs to discuss how an idea is organised, then ask the student to try the same approach with another topic.
Recent reading and writing work helps us identify whether the main difficulty is understanding, selecting evidence, organising ideas or expressing them accurately. The tutor uses a short task to find a manageable starting point and builds from the student’s response.
