G2 English Tuition for Secondary 1–4

Our tutors help G2 students use evidence in comprehension answers, develop their writing and explain an opinion aloud. Lessons use recent schoolwork to find what needs attention, with practice between classes.

  • Writing: situational tasks and longer responses
  • Comprehension: evidence, inference and language in context

Syllabus & assessment

Syllabus sources

The 2027 SEC G2 English assessment follows SEAB K200. The year pages describe lesson priorities based on the student’s schoolwork. Source checked 10 October 2026.

From a clear paragraph to a complete response

Sec 1 lessons focus on understanding questions, choosing evidence and organising a paragraph. In Sec 2, students practise explaining their ideas in more detail and choosing what to keep in a shorter answer.

In Sec 3, students put these skills together in longer responses. Sec 4 adds focused revision and timed practice. We use school feedback to choose what to work on, including earlier skills that still need attention.

Help a reader follow the reason

If a student writes “The activity helps students”, ask who it helps and how. An example can make the reason clearer. The same questions work in oral discussion: give an opinion, explain it and add an example.

Check that each example fits the question and helps the reader understand the point. When a paragraph drifts, remove the unrelated detail before adding more explanation.

The task

Develop the claim: “A school reading group can help students try unfamiliar books.”

Worked response

Members can recommend a book and explain one moment that interested them. Hearing a classmate’s specific reason may encourage another student to try a genre they would usually overlook.

The paragraph names something the group could do and explains how that could encourage another student to read a new kind of book.

Use G2 requirements when preparing for SEC

G2 and G3 English share several task types, but their requirements are not interchangeable. The 2027 G2 writing ranges are shorter, and preparation should use the correct level’s instructions. G1 has further differences in language use and oral assessment. The exam-format guide presents each level separately.

We teach students how to approach each task before asking them to do it against the clock. Timed attempts then show where they slow down or make mistakes, so the next lesson can address those problems.

Common difficulties

The idea is sensible but the explanation is missing

A student may give a reason but leave the link to the question unexplained. We ask them to talk through the answer, then help them put the missing explanation into words.

More practice produces the same kind of error

When the same mistake keeps appearing, we work on that part of the answer. The student practises preserving the passage’s meaning or meeting a writing requirement before trying another full response.

How our tutors help

Separate understanding from expression

The tutor asks the student to explain the idea aloud. This shows whether the difficulty is interpreting the task, choosing the evidence or writing the answer clearly.

Turn feedback into a fresh attempt

We help the student revise part of an answer, then try another passage or topic to check they can use what they learned.

Connect each week’s teaching and practice

The tutor uses platform answers to plan the live lesson. Students then practise what they learned and revisit earlier work through spaced review.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

How many students are in each class?

Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

How much does a dedicated trial session cost?

A dedicated trial session at a different timeslot is offered at a subsidised rate of $30. We’ll help you explore the available options.

Does G2 English tuition cover summary writing?

Yes. We teach students to identify the question’s focus, select distinct relevant points and express them concisely without changing meaning. Younger students can practise these skills in short texts before formal summary tasks; upper-secondary preparation uses the relevant course requirements.

What is different about G2 writing in 2027?

The K200 syllabus specifies 180–250 words for situational writing and 250–400 words for continuous writing. Those ranges differ from G3. The exam-format guide supplies the full G2 breakdown with links to the official source.

Is the class suitable if English is the child’s only G2 subject?

Placement should follow the English course the student takes and their learning needs. Their other subject levels do not determine English preparation. We confirm the course, 2027 year and class schedule by message after a trial request.

What should parents look for between lessons?

Ask your child to show a correction they understand and another answer where they used it without help. Look for clearer evidence, a fuller explanation or a writing requirement they used to miss.

Is registration open for 2027?
