G1 English Tuition for Secondary 1–4

Our tutors help G1 students understand short texts, write clear messages and explain their ideas aloud. Lessons use your child’s current schoolwork, with practice between classes on the skills they need to improve.

Live online classes · Maximum 4 students · 1.5 hours weekly

How G1 English support changes across the four years

In Sec 1, we often start with understanding a short text, writing complete sentences and explaining everyday ideas. In Sec 2, students practise putting details together, organising a message and spotting familiar mistakes on their own. We adjust the pace to the student’s work.

In Sec 3, students practise longer tasks, including planning what to write and keeping sentences accurate. Sec 4 lessons use recent papers to choose revision topics and practise working under exam conditions.

A correction should make the next message clearer

Consider a child who writes an unclear request. Correcting every error at once can leave them unsure what mattered. First establish what the reader needs to know and do. Then choose the language issue that most affects meaning, such as a missing subject or an uncertain time reference. The revision should solve a recognisable communication problem.

After a correction, we ask the student to explain the change and try it in another message. Parents can keep a few earlier and later attempts to see whether their child can now write the request without copying a model.

The task

A message says, “Cannot come tomorrow. Please change.” Make the request clear to a teacher.

Worked response

“I cannot attend the practice session tomorrow because I have a school appointment. Could I join the next session?”

The revision supplies who is writing, what they cannot attend, why and what they are requesting. The details in a real task must come from that task’s information.

G1 assessment preparation

G1 English has its own national assessment design. Its language-use tasks include vocabulary and grammar cloze, and its oral work includes reading aloud. Lessons build accurate language use, reading fluency and clear communication through these tasks.

The exam-format guide lists the 2027 G1 marks, timings and writing lengths. Check the document for your child’s examination year when preparing for papers. In the earlier years, lessons focus on the reading, writing and speaking skills those tasks will need.

Common difficulties

English feels like a collection of unrelated rules

We explain grammar through everyday writing. A tense tells the reader when something happened; a linking word shows how two ideas fit together. Students try the rule in a sentence of their own.

A short answer hides the child’s understanding

Some students can explain an idea aloud but write only a fragment. Our tutors use that spoken explanation to build a complete response and then ask for a fresh written attempt.

How our tutors help

Start from a task the student recognises

We start with a familiar task, such as a school exercise, notice or short account. The tutor checks what the student understands before moving on.

Teach in steps the student can repeat

The tutor demonstrates how to read a question or write an answer, explains the steps, then lets your child try. Students need less prompting as they become more confident.

Keep practice part of the teaching

Between classes, students practise on the platform and revisit earlier work. The tutor uses their answers to decide what to teach next.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers for parents

How many students are in each class?

Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

How much does a dedicated trial session cost?

A dedicated trial session at a different timeslot is offered at a subsidised rate of $30. We’ll help you explore the available options.

Who is G1 English tuition for?

It is for Secondary 1–4 students taking G1 English at school. Share current English work when requesting a trial so the tutor can identify a useful starting point.

How does G1 English differ from G2 and G3?

The 2027 G1 syllabus includes Language Use and Comprehension with cloze tasks, and reading aloud in oral communication. G2/G3 have different task requirements, including summary and a planned oral response. The separate assessment tables explain the distinctions in detail.

Can you help with both confidence and accuracy?

We give your child a task they can work through, discuss their answer and practise the step they found difficult. Trying another task without help lets both the student and tutor see what has improved.

How do we choose the year page?

Choose the year your child will enter for the 2027 classes, then read its learning priorities. Our team messages you to confirm the future level, English course and schedule before placement.

Is registration open for 2027?

Class registration for the 2027 school year is open. Request a trial class using the form. We will message you to confirm your child’s 2027 level and class details.

Is practice included?

Yes. Students practise on DeepThink between their weekly live online lessons.
