Our tutors help Sec 2 students choose reading evidence, develop paragraphs and check their own writing. Lessons use school feedback to work on mistakes that keep appearing. Choose your child’s course below to see the lesson priorities.

Repeating a corrected answer is a start. Try another question to check understanding. Can your child choose evidence from a different passage, explain a new reason or spot the same grammar mistake in their own writing?
The answer helps us decide what to teach. A student who knows the method but hesitates may need guided practice. One who starts confidently but changes the passage’s meaning may need help reading more carefully.
The task
A student corrected “They was waiting” to “They were waiting”. What fresh task would show understanding?
Worked response
Ask the student to choose and explain “was” or “were” in “The list of visitors ___ on the desk”, then use the same agreement idea in an original sentence.
The noun phrase changes, so the student must identify the grammatical subject instead of repeating the previous correction. “List” is singular and takes “was”; the nearby plural “visitors” does not control the verb.

G1 students practise accurate sentences and complete messages. G2 and G3 students work on choosing evidence, paraphrasing and developing longer answers. IP and IB pathway assignments may also ask them to compare texts or explain an interpretation. The course pages show examples of this work.
Use recent school feedback to choose one skill to practise. It might be explaining an inference, developing a paragraph or fixing a sentence error. Work on a short task, then try another without help.
After correcting a sentence, we discuss why it was wrong and try the same rule in another task.
We help students plan paragraphs, then gradually reduce the prompts so they can write on their own.
We choose a problem from recent assignments, practise it and check another answer to see whether the student can now handle it.
The tutor shows how to plan, choose evidence or check an answer, then asks the student to do that part without help.
Students revisit earlier skills through platform practice and spaced review. The tutor uses their answers to plan the next class.

Frequently asked questions
Four, at most. Students are grouped by learning pace, not just by year level, so each lesson moves at the speed of the students actually in it. When no session matches a child’s pace, we open a new one. In a class that size, every child answers questions, gets their working checked, and gets help the moment they need it.

Sec 2 is a good time to practise reading, writing and speaking with less help. We use current school tasks to choose what to work on before moving to longer or timed responses.
Both develop comprehension, writing and oral communication, using the tasks and requirements of the student’s English course. We help students select evidence, explain a reason, organise paragraphs and review their work independently.
Look for things your child can do with less help: choose evidence, plan a paragraph, explain a reason or spot a familiar error. Their next independent assignment can show how much they have learned.
